When was the last time you read a good article on transportation policy-making in Washington?

Have you ever wished that the D.C. media could do a better job of mapping the political landscape that keeps transit under-funded and new road projects flush with federal cash?

If you had trouble answering the first question or answered yes to the second, consider this blog your new home away from home. Streetsblog Capitol Hill is a federal version of the Streetsblogs in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco — a place for community residents and livable streets advocates to connect with the often daunting bureaucracy in the nation’s capital.

I’ll be your everyday voice on this page (see here for more on my background), but other contributors will lend their insights and original reporting as Congress and the Obama administration tackle the nation’s transportation challenges.

And while our mission is to maintain an outside-the-Beltway voice, we hope to find readers right here in the capital. If you’re an aide, lawmaker or advocate who has Googled the transportation issue you care about only to find it getting little or no coverage, this blog is also for you.

I can be reached any time at elana (at) streetsblog (dot) org. If you have a tip, question, thought or suggestion, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
